Meet Caitlin Carter (Kid Entrepreneur with a Cause)...

Or, as she's known at home, CC. Caitlin was born with eyes as Blue as the Ocean and a heart of gold, and she’s made our hearts smile every day for over 12 years now!  Her dream this holiday season is to raise funds for the Childhood Leukemia Foundation, in memory of her cousin, Heather-Lyn.

After a period of remission and a strong fight, Heather-Lyn lost her battle with childhood leukemia in 2002 at the age of 10. She was a vibrant ray of sunshine to all who met her, as evidenced by the funeral visitation line that wrapped around the building for hours. Her funeral was held in her school auditorium to allow all of her classmates to attend and to accommodate the vast number of people she touched during her short time with us.

Having lost our own first baby not long afterward, we were ultimately blessed with Caitlin’s healthy arrival in 2004 – followed by her younger brother and sister.  Hearing from a young age about how inspirational her cousin was, when Caitlin was around 6 years old she decided to honor Heather-Lyn’s memory by placing a framed photo of her on her nightstand, where it has remained ever since; and although Caitlin never had the chance to meet Heather-Lyn they bore so many uncanny and similar attributes from very early on – and Caitlin developed a special supernatural bond with her cousin. They turned out to share a huge happy smile and dimples, as well as a passion for family and friends, soccer and American Girl dolls, and pleasing and helping others…not to mention a very special shared joy for life.

Caitlin has a big blue ocean dream of one day becoming a pediatric oncologist… after attending either The University of Florida or Duke to play lacrosse (another passion).  In the meantime, she has also developed an entrepreneurial spirit to accompany her strong artistic vision and creativity.  Caitlin conceived BlueOcean™ and this t-shirt design completely on her own, with the idea of developing a “kid-preneur” clothing line that could also help others.

Proceeds from each t-shirt will go toward Caitlin’s Christmas wish of donating to the Childhood Leukemia Foundation in Heather-Lyn’s name.  Meanwhile, Caitlin will keep working toward fulfilling that dream of one day becoming a pediatric oncologist and making a direct impact on others like Heather-Lyn.

Thanks for reading and helping share CC's passion!

*Hawaiian lore holds the green sea turtle as a symbol of peace, longevity, and even as a navigator that can find its way home from even the longest journey.  With an interest in supporting those with childhood cancer, Caitlin’s use of the sea turtle in BlueOcean shares the hope in that symbology for those surviving and, unfortunately, for those who have lost their battle with childhood cancer.
