Full story

Hillcrest Children and Family Center is using the occasion of our 201st anniversary to serve our friends and neighbors through a series of mental health awareness events. Join us starting Sunday, October 9 through Saturday, October 15 as we celebrate One Love For A City. The goal is to raise awareness around the unique mental health issues facing the underserved minority population in the Washington metropolitan area.

Everything from music entertainment to race relations will be explored as we seek to heal DC. Some of the program highlights include: A live band and comedy infusion with Black Alley, War & Treaty, Yuung Funny, Boomscat and others at Takoma Station DC.  A panel discussion about raced-based trauma hosted by Guy Lambert from WPGC 95.5 with noteworthy speaker – Dr. Robert T. Carter, along with community activist, business leaders, mental health and law enforcement experts at the MLK Library. Mental health professionals will get the opportunity to gain Continuing Education Units and dig deeper into the topic of race-based trauma with Dr. Carter by attending a workshop held at St. Elizabeth Hospital. A night of spoken word empowerment with award winning poets from Split this Rock and other notable DC artists at BusBoys and Poets. Mix and mingle with fellow Washingtonians at a social networking event at Smith Commons DC. Come play with us as we host a community wide Family and Youth Play Day to celebrate Hillcrest Center’s Birthday at Democracy Prep.
