When an animal enters the shelter, they are assigned a number.  They are put in a numbered kennel.  In many shelters, they are given an "expiration date".  When they leave the shelter, they are still a number--a statistic whether they left alive or dead and in how many days...

Clark was ID Number 69,591 and was the 20,144,307th animal entered in the shelter software.   He had 4 strikes against him:  He was big. He was black.  He was a "Pit Bull".  He was heartworm positive.   He was released after 362 days on a concrete slab in an 8x6 kennel.

He spent a year stuck in a cell.  A year living on a concrete floor without touching grass or rolling in dirt.  A year without love.  For 362 days, Clark was passed over.  No adopters wanted him. No "rescue" would take him on. 

Dogs aren't stupid--he watched hundreds of people pass by him in the shelter, hundreds of people who said his life didn't matter, that it had no value.  But WE stopped.  And WE said yes.  And WE say his life has value. Here at Mutts and Mittens Manor, we Champion the Underdogs--something Clark certainly was. .
