Full story
Emily is 16 years old and she is a wonderful, smart, respectful young lady who did very well in school. She enjoyed hanging out with her friends, rollerskating, painting, and being a normal teenager, but she can no longer do those things.
On a constant daily basis, Emily is dealing with migraines, dizzyness, blurred vision, severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, hair loss, and more. Her symptoms started back in January of 2016, and have gotten progressively worse.
After countless doctor visits, and testing, the doctors discovered a pituitary cyst close to Emily's brain, and two Tarlov cyst on her spine. These cysts are causing pain and nerve damage. They need to be surgically removed by a specialist. The closest specialist is located in Texas, close to 1,400 miles away. Emily's first appointment was scheduled for the 2nd week of November 2016. As of March 2017, we finally have surgery approval from the insurance! The surgery is scheduled for April 12, 2017. Emily and her mom Melissa will need to stay in Texas 2-4 weeks after surgery for follow ups, depending on how she heals.
Wings of Mercy graciously supplied air transport for the first trip, and hopefully they will be for the surgery as well. Funds for the surgery/hospital stay, accommodations for the lengthy stay in Texas post op, as well as food and transportation/taxi while there, is a big issue. As well as Emily's ever growing medical bills.
