Full story
I have been writing for as long as I can remember, but until recently, I never felt like I had a purpose for doing so. A few months ago, it occurred to me that, despite my love for people, somehow, we'd ended up with an entire wardrobe full of clothing that was made mostly- if not wholly- in sweatshops. I don't know that it ever occured to me before then that sweatshops were still a thing and in doing research, I found that while there are loads of great companies out there making strides on this issue, most big names in the fashion industry still rely heavily on the use of sweatshops to manufacture their product. Furhtermore- their practices as well as the finished product are not great for the environment either.
My focus here is not to shed light on the negativity there is in the fashion industry (though that is a super important job for someone better suited for that). My goal here is to seek out & research companies who are ALREADY creating responsibly made pieces and highlighting THEM by way of review and referring my readers to these types of companies.
Money talks and the best way to end an injustice is to starve it. People will still need clothes and I want to be part of helping people find the companies who are dedicated to making the fashion industry something better than what it is. If this is something you also feel strongly about, or even if you just love the NOPE shirt, please show your support by purchasing one and sharing it on social media using #SMKFreelance #InkToThePeople #ResponsibleFashion
