On June 5th, 2011 the world was blessed with the birth of our beautiful Samuel, he was wide-eyed, curious and easy going. On August 26th, 2011, just 11 weeks and 5 days after he was born our little boy was taken from our arms and called up to God. Samuel James Saunders passed away from SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). SIDS is the leading cause of death in infants aged 1-12 months, and is the third leading cause of death overall in infant mortality in the United States. A lack of answers is what makes SIDS so terrifying, it is unpredictable despite years of research and claims the lives of about 2,500 a year. In April of 2013, we decided to fight back! With only two weeks to plan an event we pooled our resources and threw the first Sammy James spaghetti dinner in Pineville, North Carolina; after two weeks of planning we set our goal to raise $1000 in our Sammy's name. But thanks to family, friends and a great community we raised over $3000!!! We planned on hosting this event and attacking the SIDS disease until every one of our babies are safe and no parent has to feel the heart break we have felt again; until every Mother and Father can rest their heads comfortably at night knowing that when they wake their babies will be safe and sound.
