We're raising money for the children at the Hope Village Orphanage in Da Nang, Vietnam. All proceeds will go towards the red envelopes for the upcoming Tet holiday. Gây quỹ mừng Tết cho các em làng Hy Vọng, Đà Nẵng, VN.
Hi, there.
With Tet just around the corner, we'd like to raise a little more hope for the children of the Hope Village Orphanage. Last year, we were able to provide the children with new cabinets and frames for their bedrooms thanks to all of your love, generosity and support. This year, we're hoping to provide a little luck for them to start their new year with tradition - with lucky red envelopes.
What is Tết?
The Vietnamese Lunar NewYear (Tết) is the biggest holiday of the year in Vietnam, and we would like to bring the holiday joy to the children of Hope Village Orphanage in Danang, Vietnam. The donations will be used to bring traditions such as eating traditional delicacies, (eg, bánh Chưng bánh Tét), and red envelopes of lucky money. We would love to see these children receive something special for the holiday.
Contributions will go directly towards the children in red envelopes. Any remaining money raised will go towards operating costs of the center - food, clothing, shelter, schooling, medical bills, and more.
What is the Village of Hope?
Established in 1993, the Da Nang Village of Hope has to date brought up 530 orphaned and deaf children, who were in extremely difficult circumstances, from the Da Nang and Quang Nam Province areas. Currently, there are 130 children aged between 6 and 18 living and studying in the village.
The Director of the village, Mr Phan Thanh Vinh, said that the purpose of the VOH is to give the disadvantaged children the opportunity to study and fully develop their characters to become useful citizens in the future. The salary of the staff who operate VOH is very low (on average 2 - 3 million đồng per month, which is 150Cdn). "We work here for the love of the children, [and] we are committing to building a better future for them", Mr. Vinh Phan said.
Our involvement:
We have been friends with the Village of Hope (VOH) in Danang, Vietnam for a long time. We visited them to bring money, gifts, food, and teach English to the kids in the last ten years. Having seen several hundred children grow up at the Village of Hope, we can attest to the positive impact VOH has on children’s lives, allowing them to develop their full potential and move on to happy, independent, fulfilling adult lives.
Our last involvement was in 2017-2018, where Thi had drove from North to South Vietnam collecting lightly used items (clothing, shoes, kitchen ware, and toys) from expats, foreigners and travelers who had no use for them anymore. Instead of throwing them in the trash, they were of great use to the children and the staff there. We had also raised $200 online for a small renovation of their bedrooms, and was involved in sustainable farming at the orphanage, including vertical gardens and growing your own mushrooms and other vegetables. Vietnam agriculture is not yet advanced, and understanding sustainable living and eating are quite vital to Vietnamese people at an early age.
Now what?
A few days before Tết we will transfer money to the Village of Hope’s bank account in Danang . The fund continue to accept donation until FEB 11th, 2020.
Thank You! The Village of Hope children and we extend our heartfelt thank you for your support.
