Arete Academy is the only school in the Midwest solely dedicated to educating and supporting twice-exceptional students. At Arete, bright children who learn differently find their educational home, a place where they do not simply learn... they thrive.

Arete was founded in 2014 by Leah Brezinski, Ed.D, who was inspired to help her twice-exceptional son and others like him get the education they deserve.

Arete Academy fills a great need because the vast majority of schools do not provide a framework for identifying twice-exceptional children, nor are they capable of offering services for them. These students struggle to learn in the public school system and usually do not fit in schools either designed for children with learning disablilities or children who are gifted.

Twice-exceptional learners often struggle socially and emotionally, yet they excel at high level thinking. Students like ours are some of our nation’s most promising and most innovative thinkers, worthy of an education that allows them to reach their full potential. 

Private and non-profit, with an extremely low teacher/student ratio, Arete relies on fundraising for a large percentage of its budget each year. Financial support from Arete Academy's families and friends helps us with the costs of essentials such as classroom supplies, technology upgrades, tuition assistance, faculty professional development, and physical education equipment.
