During the evening of July 20th, 19 year old Eli was in downtown Milwaukee with a good friend. While in a parking garage doing tricks on his bike, he wiped out bad and sat on a ledge to catch his breath, passed out, and fell backwards landing 18 feet to the cement floor below.
As a result of Eli’s fall, there was trauma to his spinal cord (C3-7), and while not severed, Eli currently has limited movement in his arms but not in his legs.
We are hopeful about an experimental drug potentially creating increased opportunity for the regrowth of nerves, so Eli can fully recover over time. Eli is nearly off the ventilator and active every day with occupational, physical and respiratory therapy. He had tracheotomy surgery and can use a speaking valve to talk with his parents and face-time family and friends.
We are full of gratitude that Eli is alive, and know he has a long road to recovery. Daily updates are posted on his public Facebook page: Army For Eli.
At this time we do not know how long Eli’s recovery is going to be, or what he will need in this process. We know his parents will devote many hours at his side, cheering him on and helping him as he makes new gains each day.
This means time away from work, and to that end, any money raised will help cover lost wages and anything needed to assist Eli as he moves forward each day. Thank you for being a part of Eli's Army!
