What is “Diaper Need?”
Diaper Need is defined as not having sufficient diapers to keep a baby clean, dry, and healthy. This overlooked symptom of poverty affects 1 in 3 American families.

What is a "Diaper Bank?"
A Diaper Bank is a nonprofit organization that helps address diaper need by collecting, storing, and distributing free diapers to families experiencing financial hardship. 


“Diaper Need” Facts

Diapers can cost $70-$100 a month per child

Infants need as many as 372 diapers a month; Toddlers need 248

5.3 Million babies under 3 live in poor and low income families in America - 19,000 families are on WIC in the Antelope Valley

It would take around 7 million diapers to end diaper need in the Antelope Valley for just one month

Diaper Need impacts the physical and mental well being of both parents and babies

Diaper Need can affect bonding between babies and parents

Babies without clean diapers can develop painful rashes leading to infections that can cause kidney damage and poor growth

Food Stamps and WIC Benefits cannot be used to purchase diapers

Government Safety-Net programs (like WIC and Food Stamps) list diapers as “disallowable purchases” along with tobacco and alcohol
