Full story
Michaela has wanted to go into the medical field since elementary school. She wants to help people like her doctors have helped her. I used to think that this was a far off dream that she could never obtain. I know that sounds harsh - but the background of the story is that teachers used to believe that she would never even learn to read at grade level. She had trouble in school, she couldn't sit still, and had to go to summer school. She was later diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
But she did not give up. She did not let anything stand in her way. All she wanted to do was prove everyone wrong....and she did.
She would study and work all the time. Eventually her grades started to climb and she landed on the honor roll. By middle school she was no longer in special education and was earning honor roll every quarter.
Freshman year of highschool she continued excelling making the varsity gymnastics team, joining the medical club and now achieving high honors every quarter. March of her freshman year she hit some road blocks. Her biological mom passed away and she found out that she would need back surgery over the summer.
She struggled to find her new normal. However, her tenacity and perserverance did not let anything get in her way. She has continued on her journey of sucess.
She has now been nominated for the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists Award of Excellence for academic achievment and determintaion to serve humanity in the field of medicine.
She is invited to attend the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Boston, MA in June of 2019. She is excited at the opportunity to attend and continue her path to the medical field. However it is also something that is not in our family budget. Every T-shirt purchased will help her towards attending congress.
If you would like to help but cannot purchase a t-shirt private donations can also be made through paypal.
