The Eastside Change Coalition was founded by Black youth in the greater Seattle area dedicated to the abolition of the current systems of power that oppress and abuse Black and brown bodies. The team is made up of 30+ youth ages 11-22 working towards the envisioning, building, and fostering of a community that is safe and equitable for all.
We could not be more honored to collaborate with Abundance of Hope Center in this fundraiser. Abundance of Hope Center is a family lead organization, founded and operated by African American women and other minority groups. AofH was established in 2008 as a labor of love for youth slipping through the cracks; most of which were disproportionately people of color and LGBTQIA people despite being the minority of the community. AofH staff includes members who have personally faced and overcome many of the same barriers as our most at-risk youth, and are committed to inclusion and equity in practices, policy, and programming. With the organization's goal to better strengthen our communities by empowering our most at risk youth with the self-esteem, values and tools necessary for making positive choices; while providing them with quality basic care needs, education, community resources, case management, advocacy, transitioning skills, and goal setting meetings involving professionals, family, and youth in our care, we believed they, too, are doing the work necessary to build this safe and equitable community for all.
The art printed on every item sold was illustrated by local Seattle artist and community builder, Stephanie Morales. Stephanie and ECC worked closely together to design a piece of art that represented the goals, mission, and heart of the Eastside Change Coalition and youth activists worldwide. We both believe strongly in the power of collaboration and leading in the light of the activists who came before us.
We are the next generation and together we will change the world.
