WHERE THE DREAM BEGAN
The wellness center began as the dream of Margaret Emily Spence, a founding member of a church and bible school in Torrington, Jamaica. To further impact the community, Margaret hoped to one day use the land across the street from the church to build a simple children’s clinic, however, it never came to fruition.
After Margaret's passing in 1989, the land on which she was buried and owned by her granddaughter was transferred by her parents to Margaret’s great granddaughter, Sharon M. Jones in 2007, who, after being extracted from Jamaica’s poverty at the tender age of 6 and sent to the the United Kingdom, then the United States with her parents desired to give back to the community in which she was raised.
Sharon determined the best way to achieve such as goal was to pursue the dream her great grandmother had begun all those years ago — to construct a medical clinic in a region lacking such vital services.
When Margaret Emily Spence first envisioned her dream, the Wellness Center was to focus on pediatrics for the children of her community. Now, with her dreams pursued and expanded by her great grand daughter, the facility is to cover a range of medical practices such as dentistry, general care, ophthalmology, and of course pediatrics within multiple medical suites, plus the addition of a 24-hour pharmacy store as well as apartment units to help fund the facility and its functions.
