Jemma Jean De Jong was born January 30th with half a heart (hypoplastic left heart syndrome) and underwent open heart surgery hours after her birth. HLHS children need to have a series of 3 open heart surgeries; Jemma will have another open heart surgery in June and her 3rd open heart surgery when she's a toddler. Jemma was one of the first babies in the world to survive the first open heart surgery called the 'Norwood' hours after she was born; she will also be the 11th in the world to receive her own stem cells injected into her heart during her next surgery. We have been incredibly blessed by all the support and know we would not have made it this far without FAITH.
