Khan Academy started when founder Sal Khan was trying to remotely tutor his cousin in math. He began publishing the lessons to YouTube and they became popular among his family. Soon after, the public found the lessons and really grabbed on. Within five years, Khan quit his job and pursued Khan Academy full time. A year later, Khan had been globally recognized, receiving praise from Bill Gates and funding from Google.
Today, Khan Academy offers interactive lessons in mathematics, science, history, arts and more. They are actively growing their team to offer more subjects in more languages for more people. Their goal is to always be free for everyone. With a team of only 80 people (and counting), they reach over 20 million people.
