As some of you may know, I was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis Type II when I was 14 years old. A lot of you might have seen me around and noticed something was a little different about me. This disease is a genetic mutation which causes tumors to grow throughout the central nervous system and causes many other issues. It affects about 1 in 25,000. I have seizures and chronic pain in addition to lots other nasty symptoms.
Sadly I am not the only person affected by this awful disease. Young children all the way to the elderly suffer from NF. There is NO CURE. If you find time today please take a few minutes to read about this illness that most have never heard of.
In less than two short weeks I will be undergoing my fourth brain surgery in the last five years. Over the past two years alone, I have lost my hearing, am now confined to a wheelchair and developed paralysis in the left side of my face.
All of my previous surgeries and care have been at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas but this time I am taking a leap of faith and traveling across the country to Bethesda Maryland to be seen at the National Institutes of Health. NIH will be gracious enough to cover the cost of both Dylan and myself to fly, my surgery, and lodging so that Dylan will be able to stay with me through the recovery process.
After my surgery, I will have a very long road ahead of me so I am trying to raise funds to cover our commutes back and forth from Austin to Houston for doctors appointments, getting my stitches out, physical therapy and to cover medical necessities that Medicaid does not.
I am also selling t-shirts. This shirt was designed by me and is pretty true to my story and beliefs as a person. Pictured is the front. The back has Psalm 91:4 on it. They will be $22.
