In January 2019 Natalia was diagnosed with high risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) with a MLL mutant gene. From January 2019 to February 2020 Natalia received intense chemotherapy, in that time she got a life threatening fungal infection. Vancrystine gave her bladder paralysis and bladder spasms. Natalia received numerious blood and platelet transfusions and there was a constant battle with getting her numbers to increase. In February 2020 Natalia was to start maintenance, on her first day blasts had shown up in here blood work. After another bone marrow biopsy we found out Natalia had relapsed. Natalia just finished the first 28 days of chemo to get her back in remission to prepare for a bone marrow transplant. With Covid-19 being a threat to the world right now finding her a perfect match that does not contain Covid is a dangerous task. The transplant team has decided to do a cord transplant instead. This is the same process as a bone marrow transplant but with the stem cells from an umbilical cord. We need to wait for Natalia's numbers to come up once again before we can do another biopsy to find out if she is ready to proceed. Once she is ready we will be heading to Madison to start the 100+ days in the hospital for the transplant. The day we head to the hospital we ask everyone to wear their Natalia apparel to show their support for Natalia!
