Well, here we are--another season of Nutcracker! Dancers are dancing, seamstresses are mending, and of course, we are kicking off our first fundraiser of the season!

Each year, we create a souvenir t-shirt to represent our cast of dancers. This year “perception” is our theme.   Our audience may take a quick look into our world and see dancers perfectly composed, perched upon their pedestals of pointe shoes, moving gracefully across the stage. While we may give a performance that is effortless and lovely, the reality is a bit livelier than that!

Nutcracker, for most dancers, is the pinnacle of the holiday season. The holiday season is surely about family and friends, but for a dancer, it’s also a chance to bring joy and merriment to others. For two to three month a year, they commit themselves to a grueling rehearsal schedule that keeps them dancing for long hours to pull together a show that embodies the magic of the holiday season; it is their holiday gift to you.

One of my favorite attributes of North Atlantic Dance Theatre is our humility. We are serious artists that produce quality performances for our audiences, however; we are not above having a most enjoyable time along the way. Our rehearsals are often riddled with laughter, sweat, more laughter, and satisfaction.

For the t-shirt this year, we chose a freeze-frame image of the cast in a holiday brawl, reminiscent of our slow-motion battle scene from our production of the Nutcracker.
