Full story

My name is Joseph Horning and I am the Writer/Producer/Director of "One for the Road".  Stephen King has always been an inspiration to me.  In fact he's the reason why I became a writer and got into film making in the first place, so to have his permission to adapt one of his stories and give it my own unique vision is more than I could've possibly imagined.  Your contributions to this campaign will help me fulfill a lifelong dream of making a film for Stephen King!

A RETURN TO SALEM'S LOT!

I can remember seeing the mini-series for Salem's Lot on television as a teenager long before I read the novel and it terrified me.  In all honesty, my first trip into Salem's Lot was in King's 1978 short story collection Night Shift which featured two tales of terror about the fictitious Maine town.  The first was simply called "Jerusalem's Lot" which explored the towns dark past, letting the reader know that there has always been an evil in the Lot that stretches back centuries.  The second tale is "One for the Road" a sequel to Salem's Lot.

Set only a few short years after the events that concluded the novel, "One for the Road" tells the story of Herb "Tookey" Tooklander and his friend Booth as they venture into the Lot despite the danger, to help Gerard Lumley rescue his wife and young daughter before they can be attacked by vampires!  Though modern in its telling, "One for the Road" always felt like an old fashioned Gothic tale.

The story has been adapted several times over the years into other "Dollar Baby" films but each filmmaker has modernize the tale, setting the events of the novel Salem's Lot  and "One for the Road" within recent years.

My plan is to take the story of "One for the Road" and not only make it a direct sequel to the novel but a modernized sequel to the original mini-series directed by Tobe Hooper in 1979.  I've also taken some liberties with the story, adapting it to fit my vision by focusing on the Lumley family and their journey through Maine as they barrel towards the fateful events that await them down that dark road in 'Salem's Lot!

TOOKEY'S TAVERN TEES

Tookey's Tavern is where the bulk of "One for the Road" takes place.  I thought it would be an interesting shirt design to incorporate the films title and the main location of the story into one shirt.  There are 6 other designs that we came up with but this one was the favorite amongst everyone on my crew.

Everyone who purchases a "Have One for the Road at Tookey's Tavern" T-shirt will have their names entered into the final credits of the film as a SPECIAL THANK YOU for your contribution.  You will also be given the private link to the finished film with a passcode so that you can have a private screening of the film with your friends and family!  Think of how cool it would be to brag to everyone that you helped make a Stephen King film!

ARE DOLLAR BABY FILMS REALLY POSSIBLY?

Yes they are!  Ever since the late 1970's and early 1980's Stephen King was asked repeatedly by aspiring filmmakers if they could have permission to adapt his short stories into movies.  Mr. King graciously grants the non-exclusive rights for these films to be made with the expressed understanding that they are not to be made for commercial use and that he still retains film rights to do with the production as he pleases.  Basically we are making a private film for Stephen King!

Probably the most famous member of the "Dollar Baby" film club is Frank Darabont whose adaptation of "The Woman in the Room" was so well received that it led Stephen King to giving him a "handshake deal" to the rights of "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption"!
