In Short

My name is Emily Bloode. I'm a game designer, and a lover of real education. And it's important that I use the world real, in this sense. Because school is a great tool for empowering kids to understand, but not to really learn. Dates, times, names, numbers...it can all get a little bit...well, boring. That's where we come in.

Press Start aims to be place where kids can get the help they need to succeed. Fun and games included. 

What we intend to offer anyone who comes in:

• Free tutoring and homework help every weekday after school.
• Incentive programs designed to help kids feel they are getting something for their effort.
• Special help for kids who need it.
• A flat rate arcade to help anyone unwind.

• Space. We need a storefront to put everything inside. 
• Games. This is really important to the grand plan. We have 15 games chosen.

The Impact

We don't intend to be 'just another arcade'. Partially because those don't exist anymore, and partially because we can't do that anymore. Take a look at the state of education within the United States. It's all about doing well on those standardized tests. And what does all that hard work earn you? A pat on the back. In our highly-digitized society, this isn't enough anymore, and the only way to give something back without breaking out some cash is to take away in order to give back. This changes that model, and offers kids a chance to play arcade games FOR FREE when they have done the work. Better test scores, kids in a safe environment, and weekend entertainment without breaking the bank. The impact over the long term could be huge. The scientist who creates a cure for cancer could study here!

Risks & Challenges

There are definitely risks to something like this. Town zoning laws, parental discretion, and taxation hurdles create a slight twinge of worry. However, we know we can get past these. Determination, working with the town, and adding exceptions to the rules can absolutely help us make this work. I have no intention of stopping this cause, and I hope you won't let anything stop you from showing your love of education!
