Full story

Anyone that knows me knows that this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life. Watching my brother Kwanza suffer through his mental illness has been an emotional roller coaster. In the beginning its one of those things that no one wants to accept (he’s my baby brother), then there’s the thought that maybe he’s just playing the fool… Nine years later, he’s not. It’s torn our family apart because no one fully understands how to deal with him, but ultimately my mother gave birth to him so she just won’t give up. Aside from the mental ward, or being arrested there seems to be no resolve when he starts to “act up”. I have contacted a few facilities, but because he doesn’t have insurance our options are very limited. For one month of treatment, the cost is almost $30,000. He’s way past any local services being of assistance, he’s needs to be institutionalized before he either hurts someone, or hurts himself.

Sometimes we cover things up and pray they go away, this situation hasn’t been one of those things. I am putting my selfish pride aside and asking for your help to send him away for treatment. I know I’ll be in a few group chats, but if in the end, he gets the help he needs it will be worth it. Thanks, in advance for your help, and please pray for our family through this ordeal.
