At PHA I have seen a tapestry of humanity – skins of every color, a vast array of people with different religious beliefs, the very old and newborn infants. I have come in contact those who are extremely wealthy and those who are homeless, some people who are caregivers and some who have been brutally beaten. People whose families came over on the Mayflower and refugees who came from the Congo or Syria just last week. I work with clients and social workers and donors and volunteers – and do you know what they all have in common? They want to be treated with kindness and respect. They want to live with dignity. They want to be appreciated for whatever talent or gift they have to offer the world. People want to give of themselves and often have trouble asking for and receiving help. The world seems like a very different place when you choose this lens to search for what makes us the same rather than focusing on what makes us different. And it is this lens that we want to make sure everyone leaves PHA with a furnished home with positive feelings about their time with us. - Nancy
