In 1973, the Endangered Species act had just been passed- and was immediately turned into controversy. The construction of the Tellico Dam threatned the critical habitat of the Snail darter(Percina tanasi). Many local groups protested the continued development of the Dam, but the project recieved an exemption from the ESA. Fortunantly- the snail darter has recovered in several locations. All proceeds go to local stream conservation.
