St. Mary Parish in McHenry, Illinois celebrated its first mass August 15, 1894 in a building that had previously housed a public school. St. Mary Church was built and dedicated August 15, 1898. In 1917 a tragic fire heavily damaged the Church. The Church was repaired and, over the years extensive renovations were made. On Sunday, September 21, 1969 during Thanksgiving Masses, St. Mary Catholic Church celebrated her Diamond Jubilee.

Beginning August 15, 2019 and ending August 15, 2020, St. Mary Catholic Church will be celebrating its 125th Anniversary. As Reverand David M. Austin, our Pastor said “These moments don’t come around very often!”
