My neice Sonja is a beautiful, artistic, intelligent women. When I saw her minutes after she was brutally attacked and beaten by an ex fiance she reminded me of a leaf in Autumn. Frail, delicate and if touched the wrong way would crumble to pieces. She continues to struggle with injuries that will remain the rest of her life. She has become stronger everyday, knowing the mental and physical healing will take patience and more time. Most importantly she has become renewed. Her smile has begun to sparkle again, her laugh has become bright and contaigeous. She has courage, although shakey at times. She is confindent although still cautious . She is determined to tell her story for all others who may gain strength from her, for those who need to understand what she has been through and in hopes that there will be justice. I am proud to see her progress and am blessed to be able to be with her through the highs and lows.
