My name is Shelby Strickland. I'm currently a sophomore at Lamar University pursuing a degree in communications. I desire to become a Journalist. I hope to visit Iceland July 27th - August 6th to earn credit towards my major! Unfortunately, the trip is a bit expensive for my college budget and am starting to fundraise. I have always had a heart for traveling so hearing about this study abroad opportunity was very exciting for me. On past trips I would wonder what I could get from it or how the trip would change me but as I’ve furthered my travels and grown as a person my mindset has evolved. I’ve only been out of the country once on a mission trip to Iquitos, Peru and it changed my life in ways I would have never thought possible. My mindset was no longer “how will I benefit?” but “how will my knowledge and understanding expand AND how will I leave this place better than I found it?”I look forward to visiting Iceland to allow myself to be imprinted upon and imprint upon those I meet: the Great Exchange.A huge thanks to those of you who hear my heart in the matter and choose to donate.
