The Juniper Fund was started by David Morton and Melissa Arnot Reid in order to address an unmet obligation they witnessed through their work as guides in the world's great mountains.
The mountain climbing and expedition industry employs countless local staff and laborers in order to help support the adventures many travelers seek. The reality is that some of these workers are injured or killed in the course of this work.
The mission of The Juniper Fund is to support and empower families and communities impacted by the loss of a Himalayan high-altitude worker. We offer three primary areas of support to our families:
1) Cost of Living Grant - $3,000 per year for five years after the loss of a family member to help alleviate an immediate and difficult financial burden.
2) Vocational Training - develop skills and opportunities in an income producing area of interest
3) Business Grants - enable financial independence with the sense and knowledge that this is possible.
