Full story
Almost 6-months ago, I started a new experience as a single father. On Father's day, instead of spending it with my daughter, I spent it cycling in Chicago from my new home passed the places where I met her mother, lived with her and her mother as well as the hospital where our daughter was born. It was a 27.48 mile cycle -- there and back.
This journey inspired me to create a cycling event to raise money to end the child & parent to prison pipeline. The name of the cycling event is Ride to End Parental Prison. It is called parental prison as the imprisonment cycle starts with parents and ends with children of jailed parents being more than six times more likely than other children to be incarcerated as adults.
The mission of Ride to End Parental Prison is to unite an unparalleled cycling community of men and women who are committed to end the cycle of parental prison in our children's lifetime.
When someone is locked up because they can’t afford to pay their child support or bail, terrible things happen. Even one night in jail can cause someone to lose their job, their home, children or even their life.
And children of imprisoned parents are six times more likely than other children to be incarcerated as adults, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
So Ride to End Parental Prison will end this cycle with a touring cycling event to help raise funds to meet the best-interest of children and parents in prison in the United States of America.
The courage, boldness, pride, determination and generosity of our Riders, Crews, Sponsors, Partners and Volunteers will help raise millions in support of decarceration bail funds in each city toured on the Ride to End Parental Prison.
So join us in 2019, Ride to End Parental Prison. Sign-up and End the cycle with us in 2019.
