Full story

For us, adoption was always Plan A. We have had a heart for adoption ever since we were young. In 2012, we met on a mission trip to Uganda. On this trip, we found more than just each other. The moment Lindsey locked eyes with a little girl named Gift, she had an instant and unexplainable love for her. Gift was a little over a year old and weighed only 11 lbs. As a 22-year-old, she couldn’t understand why she felt so strongly for such a tiny little person. She wasn’t yet thinking about marriage or having children, and yet she knew the Lord was telling her that this girl was her daughter. Little did she know that, separately, God was pressing on Ross' heart in the same way. In 2013 Lindsey spent 2 months in Uganda and the bond with Gift was still so strong. As a couple, we prayed over Gift constantly. Mostly for her well-being, but we also prayed that if it were His will, that we could one day make her family. Pictures of her hung throughout our home over our years of marriage, longing to be near her. We left it at the feet of the Lord SO many times, and He has graciously given us an opportunity to pursue adopting her. During our time of missionary work in Uganda, we have decided that we were “all in.”  Now she is 7-years-old, and we have more than joyously accepted the calling to adopt her. We have given her the name Everly Gift (a reminder to us that God is “ever” faithful, “ever” true, “ever” good, etc.). She could not be more of a joy to us, and we love the ways that God has made her fit so well into our family (she and Lindsey are two peas in a pod!). This has not been an easy road by any means, but we both agree that the adoption journey is totally worth it.
