Almost four years ago as I pondered over the idea of becoming a mother, something inside me pushed me to write a series of affirmations for the new human I would bring into the world. 🙏🏽
Those affirmations were written to help my child and other children embrace being unique in their own skin, encourage children to see the good in others and to accept pieces of themselves that may not be often celebrated. 🫶🏾
The past few weeks have been full of joy, pain and gratitude. This week, as we returned from Spring Break, I was so excited to share my book! We Are The People, is finally a book, fours years and two sons later!! 🤞🏾💙💙🙌🏾📘
I told my new class of first grade students that I had a book coming out when I met them in January. I showed them the proofs I received from my publisher and read the book to them. They were so happy. They made comments like, “the pictures are beautiful,” “it’s good to work together to save the world,” “I can’t wait until it’s done” and “look, it’s me!” 😊🥹
My amazing grade level partner (💕) brought her students over for a special guest author reading. Unbeknownst, to their class, it was me! The students were so excited to be the among the first group of students to have a read aloud from We Are The People.
Today I am a published Children’s author! Emotional is an understatement. If you’re able, please support We Are The People.
Support Black authors, support Black books and promote literacy. ☺️📚✊🏾
Also, if you haven’t already, get yourself a copy of We Are The People by Ri’ana Johnson. Thank you for your support! More great things to come! 📘🎉🙏🏽😊
