St. Mary Parish in McHenry, Illinois celebrated her first mass August 15, 1894 in a building that had previously housed a public school. St. Mary Church was built and dedicated August 15, 1898. In 1917, a tragic fire heavily damaged the church. The church was repaired and, over the years, extensive renovations were made. On Sunday, September 21, 1969 during Thanksgiving Masses, St. Mary Catholic Church celebrated her Diamond Jubilee. 

Beginning August 15, 2019 and ending August 15, 2020, St. Mary Catholic Church will be celebrating her 125th Anniversary. As Reverand David M. Austin, our Pastor said, “These moments don’t come around very often!”

Rebecca Bodden, artist and 2019 graduate of our own Montini Catholic School, designed the stunning image of Our Lady and namesake that graces the garments and accessory available here to commemorate this occasion. Our anniversary year is filled with a variety of fun-filled, family activities and plenty of opportunities to show your pride in being a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. We are a welcoming community, bonded by Catholic Faith, serving God and one another. Let’s truly bond together and support St. Mary!
